There is nothing more rewarding for me than to see a student's face light up when they grasp a concept or technique that gives them greater control of their photographic creativity.

Much of the work I'm asked to critique by frustrated photographers can be made stronger or exhibit more energy if the photographer . . .

  • had a better mastery of his or her camera operation
  • understood how the camera's light meter is influenced and often confused by the lighting conditions
  • employed the basic guides to composition
  • knew how to use one or two filters
  • had learned to pre-visualize

My workshops emphasize mastering the basics and then adding more creativity with some advanced skills. Beginning with The Essentials, the workshops series provides the knowledge and skills it takes to be more consistent and a more creative photographer.

The knowledge you learn in these workshops applies to both still and video photography in color or black and white.

The Essentials - Provides you with the the basic skills, how to use the many features of your camera and how to use your light meter.

Advanced Imaging - Builds on The Essentials by introducing advanced camera and metering techniques which when used with basic composition "guides" will add strength and character to your images.

Creative Composition - Builds on Advanced Imaging providing camera techniques specifically used with the advanced compositional designs you will learn and practice.

The Zone System Made User Friendly -
Whether you create color or black and white photographs, understanding and using the basic elements of the Zone System will substantially enhance your images' lighting and tonal balance and add impact to you work.
