Later I became intrigued by the technical details of commercial photography and interned with a master photographer in Michigan. Today, about half my work is commercial. The balance is fine art, portraiture, travel and stock. In addition I offer a series photography workshops for beginners and advanced armatures. Good composition is the key to achieving images that tell a story. Whether sitting astride a 10-ton crane 30 feet above the ground, hanging out on a spinnaker boom or flying at tree top level, I'll assume most any position to get the picture. Exerting the extra effort is the result of my passion to have my images tell an interesting story. I rely on my experience from 15 years in marketing, during an earlier career, to assess those nuances that will grab the viewer's interest, in addition to meeting my client's specific needs. Often, I find the most promising compositions are created when working in concert with the client and their art director. On location or in a studio, my clients get the best I have to offer in camera and lighting equipment. I am proficient in, and use cameras in 35 mm, medium and large (4x5) format. I can use the same lighting on location as I use in a studio. And, I have a big black box of ingenuity I can call on to handle the ever-present, unexpected challenges. The more I explore the western U.S. and Alaska, the more I am challenged to create images that tell the story of these regions.
